On the sea-level end of Chain of Craters Road, molten lava is pouring into the sea. Although mesmerizingly beautiful to behold, the mile walk out to this point over a rugged lava field holds many dangers. Sulfur dioxide can reach potentially dangerous levels. Watch for roadside signs alerting visitors to current conditions and possible park closures. For the latest eruption news, call Hawaii Volcanoes National Park at 985-6000.
