They could easily qualify as an ”Eighth Wonder of the World.” When ancient Hawaiians first saw these magnificent mountains jutting straight up from the sea to heights of nearly 4,000 feet, they named them simply Na Pali—the cliffs. Today, the unspoiled beauty of this inaccessible coastline is protected under the auspices of the Na Pali Coast State Park. The ruggedness of the 7-million-year-old terrain makes it obviously inaccessible by car, but it can be enjoyed by aerial sightseeing tours, various boat cruises and—for the hardy adventurer—by foot via the 11.5-mile-long Kalalau Trail.
