Along the way to I'ao Valley State Park, off Highway 32, I'ao Valley Road, you'll find this lovely park and gardens, which serve as a tribute to the various ethnic groups that came to work on the sugar and pineapple plantations. Features include a New England-style house, a Japanese tea house, a Hawaiian grass shack, a Japanese garden, a Chinese moon gate and a Portuguese outdoor oven. Admission is free and picnicking is allowed.
This bronze statue depicts sugar-cane workers dressed in typical attire required for working in the insect-laden fields. The distinctively shaped cutter held by the man is called a cane knife.
