Hard Rock Café (Map 1, D-15 or Map 2, B-1) (955-7383), which features great food, cool merchandise and legendary memorabilia. Kua Aina Sandwich Ward Centre (Map 1, E-12) (591-9133). Located in Honolulu, at the entrance to Ward Center. Best burgers in the state, as well as gourmet sandwiches and homemade french fries.
Kuhio Beach Grill (Waikiki Map, C-11) (921-5171) Located on the ground floor of the Kealohilani Tower at the Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort and Spa, 2552 Kalakaua Avenue. Internationally flavored dining is enhanced by an indoor-outdoor tropical setting, which puts diners in the perfect mood for a leisurely dining experience. The international buffets include prime rib, a Chef Action Station, salad bar and delicious crab legs (Friday and Saturday). Teddy's Bigger Burgers in the Koko Marina Shopping Center (Map 2, D-10) (394-9100). Teddy uses only 100-percent fresh-chilled ground chuck (no fillers or binders). Burgers are pattied by hand daily and always char-broiled to order. “Super Sauce” is Teddy's own sweet and tangy creation, not the usual Thousand Island dressing. Teddy's teriyaki sauce is a traditional recipe made from scratch. All produce and buns are the highest quality and are delivered fresh daily.
The Ali'i Luau at Polynesian Cultural Center Laie (Map 4, B-6) (293-3333). The Ali'i Luau recreates the royal ceremony of ancient luaus-including the traditional custom of roasting a pig in an imu, the Hawaiian word for fire pit. Upon arrival, you'll receive a complimentary orchid lei greeting. Afterward, natives representing King Kamehameha and his court offer an ancestral welcome of song and dance. Guests are also serenaded by premier Hawaiian entertainers while enjoying melt-in-your-mouth pork and other Hawaiian cuisine.
Cholo's Homestyle Mexican Restaurant and Margarita Bar (Map 5, Haleiwa Inset, B-6) (637-3059). North Shore Marketplace, Haleiwa. A wide variety of authentic Mexican dishes is available in generous portions at great prices. Daily specials include fajitas, chile rellenos and fresh fish tacos. Adding to the festive atmosphere, whether dining inside or on the patio, are Mexican art and handcrafts that are for sale. Cholo's accepts major credit cards. Grass Skirt Grill (Map 5, B-6) (637-HULA). Famous for fresh-grilled Hawaiian fish, delivered from Haleiwa Harbor daily. Grass Skirt Grill has reinvented the plate lunch, served with brown or white rice and fresh salad items grown nearby. Plate choices include grilled fish, teriyaki chicken, pork and scampi-style shrimp. All sauces are made from scratch. Burgers and a few vegetarian choices, too. Family and sandy feet are welcomed. Kua Aina Sandwich Haleiwa (Map 5, Haleiwa Inset, B-6) (637-6067). After 30 years of hole-in-the-wall fame, Kua Aina has a brand-new, larger restaurant at 66-160 Kamehameha Highway, adjacent to Malama Market, under the Big Tree. Same great food: best burgers in the state, as well as gourmet sandwiches and homemade french fries. Parking in the rear.
Sharks Cove Grill (Map 5, C-9) (638-8300). 59-712 Kamehameha Highway. Chef Jacque Rarick redefines fast food, using only fresh, locally grown North Shore products and sauces specially blended for each dish. The protein smoothie of banana, peanut butter and vanilla soy milk is simply delicious. Pesto skewered shrimp or fresh ahi plates are visual and taste pleasures.
