Haleiwa, Surf City USA continued:
Many of Haleiwa's buildings were built in the early 1900s with plantation-style or western architecture. In 1984 the town was designated a Historic Cultural and Scenic District by the state.
These days, no trip to Haleiwa is complete without a visit to Matsumoto's or Aoki's shave ice store, where you can get the favorite Island treat with a multitude of flavors and extras such as ice cream or azuki beans.
